In VPchat go to the Tools menu and select Preferences...
Select the "Folders/Emoticon" tab, and deselect the box for "Show Emoticons."
In the Buddy List, go to the Options menu, select Preferences...
and select the "Messages/Emoticons" tab. Deselect the "Show Emoticons" box at
the bottom of the window.
