Avatars

An avatar is a small picture on the chat room background that represents a chatter. When you first use VP chat, you'll be "wearing" a pre-defined avatar. The program comes with several others that you can change into. There are numberous places online where you can download other avatars, and you can even make your own.

To move your avatar, click and drag it to your preferred location on the screen. You can also drag your avatar directly to the right of someone else and create a linked pair. Your chat names will then appear linked in the People List.

To change your avatar.

  • Right click on your avatar or click the Avatars menu from the top of the screen.
  • Choose Edit Identity.
  • Select either Stock or Personal. Personal avatars are avatars that you've created, received from other chatters, or downloaded from the web.
  • Click Change
  • Select an avatar
  • Click OK. The avatar you've selected will appear on the chat room screen.

To save new avatars from web sites:

  • Right click on the image you want to download.
  • Select Save Picture As and name the file what you want.
  • Save the downloaded file to vplaces/exts/gallery. Your new avatar will now be available when you Edit Your Identity and select Personal.

To create your own avatar:

  • Scan or draw an image.
  • Size or crop it to 48 x 64 pixels.
  • Export the image as a GIF.
  • Save the exported file to vplaces/exts/gallery. Your new avatar will now be available when you Edit Your Identity and select Personal.
